AHATS READINESS CENTER

The AHATS Readiness Center in Arden Hills, MN has achieved LEED Silver Certification. Now ain't that something!

LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is transforming the way we think about how our buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated across the globe. Comprehensive and flexible, LEED is a green building tool that addresses the entire building lifecycle recognizing best-in-class building strategies.

At its core, LEED is a program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. Building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system, and teams choose the best fit for the project. Learn more about LEED, the facts, and the LEED rating systems.

EcoDEEP worked with the Minnesota Army National Guard, Burn&McDonnell Architects and the rest of the project team to provide LEED Planning and Documentation services for the project.

Kevin and many of his mentors, colleagues and friends in the green building industry are featured in a short video - reminiscing about the first heady days of  the green building movement in Minnesota and the formation of the Minnesota Chapter of the USGBC.  A fun little piece to watch if you have the time and interest.

Similar to LEED, B3 Benchmarking is a building energy management system for public buildings in Minnesota including state, local government, and public school buildings. The B3 Guidelines can be applied to the design of new buildings or renovations to meet sustainability goals for site, water, energy, indoor environment, materials and waste.

I was asked awhile back by a group of graduate students at the U of M Humphrey School of Public Affairs to participate in an interview relative to my thoughts and opinions on LEED. Here's what came out of the 45 minutes or so of chatting.

Nothing earth shattering and none of my incredibly witty and often hilarious jokes made the final cut, but it's my first You Tube appearance.

This clip also features my knowledgeable (and better looking) friend and colleague Rick Carter from LHB.

For the record, I'm not sure where the initials following my name came from, but I am NOT an AICP.   I am AIA, CID, LEED FELLOW.    I suppose I should contact them to clear that up.

The Interchange Project has cleared its first hurdle on its way to LEED certification. The project team learned today that the GBCI has awarded all design phase credits the project was seeking. Next up is the Construction phase submittal which we hope to have completed by mid-June!   The project is also completing compliance documentation for Minnesota's sustainable building B3 and SB2030 protocols.  EcoDEEP is proud to assist the project team and Hennepin County with this important work!
