Context House Remodel and Addition

Saint Paul, Minnesota

This project is a renovation and addition to a 1920’s era home in the Mac-Groveland neighborhood in Saint Paul for a family of four with extensive interests and eclectic tastes.

Lovers of the city and their neighborhood, this family needed more space in their home and decided that a renovation and addition to their home would best suit their needs and allow them more storage, entertaining, and private activity space for all members of the family.

The result is an addition that provides an updated, simple and more modern aesthetic yet cleverly maintains a balance with the style of the existing home and context of the neighborhood. The 2 story addition to the back of the house provides for a family room, sun room, new bath and entry, outdoor living space, laundry, master bedroom, master bath and green roof exterior patio.

The interior renovation included updates to the living room, kitchen, and music room.

New decks, landscaping and painting occurred at the exterior.

The project includes Green Features such as:

• Improved insulation and Windows

• High Efficiency HVAC and heat recovery

• Low Flow plumbing fixtures

• Low VOC paints, adhesives

• FSC Wood, Reclaimed Wood, Materials, Green Roof

“We loved working with Kevin! He presented us with excellent design options, incorporated our input and came up with a final plan that complimented our existing house beautifully and efficiently.

The plan also fit perfectly into our city lot, while preserving our trees. We enjoyed working with Kevin throughout the entire process. He is an excellent communicator and explains everything very clearly. He has an amazing combination of creativity and meticulous attention to every detail. He is excellent about following up with any questions we have. And, he has a nice, easygoing personality and ability to find good solutions for any situation that may arise. We feel confident that our home is going to be a beautiful, efficient, and comfortable living space for many years to come.”
