Saint Paul, MN
This green renovation, remodeling and addition to a mid-century modern 1960’s era home in the Highland Park neighborhood of Saint Paul creates a beautiful, sustainable place to live for a family of four with decidedly modern tastes.
It all started with the need for a closet.
Their modern home was everything they hoped for except for some much needed re-working of the front entry and Master Bedroom suite. And it lacked closet space.
The result is a small addition and reconfiguration of interior space that provides better separation between public and private areas of the house, improved flow, more storage, and better daylighting within the modern aesthetic of the existing home.
A small, 60 sf addition to the exterior provided the additional closet space required while a reconfiguration of the interior allowed for more sensible use of space while providing a new shared guest bath, laundry area, a more private entrance to the master bathroom and reconfigured closet space. The interior renovation included updates to the front entrance and hall, master bedroom and master bathroom suite.
The addition and renovation was designed to match the context and detailing of the existing home, even with the addition of carefully placed windows, the introduction of new materials, lighting, appliances, flooring and finishes. Everything fits.
New decks, exterior stairs, landscaping and painting occurred at the exterior.
The project includes Green Features such as:
• Improved insulation and Windows
• High Efficiency HVAC
• Low Flow plumbing fixtures
• Low VOC paints, adhesives
• FSC Wood, Reclaimed Wood and Materials
